It was 15 years ago today (give or take a day—I'm not completely certain) that I came out of the hospital after being diagnosed with the Type I variant of diabetes. I was 21 years old.

I've been injecting myself with insulin several times a day, every day, ever since—more than 16,000 times so far. Maybe someday I'll be able to stop that, but right now I wouldn't bet on it.
