A question about pets

Dave has a stroller for his little dog. Ianiv and Arieanna have had to put their cat on antidepressants. How is it that pets are easier than children again?

As far as I know, you can't leave your child in a box when you go out, or leave them alone for a couple days with "plenty of food and water."

That said, I also think that if a dog has gotten to a point of needing a stroller, it should be put out of its misery.

And if it came down to giving the cat antidepressants or letting it starve itself out of neuroticism, I'd choose the latter.

Then again, I'm also the person who isn't shy about saying I have a $4995 lifetime budget for veterinary emergencies for my dog. The last $5 is for the bullet.

I literally spat my water out with laughter when I read this.

The thing about children, though, is that they grow up.

Children do grow up, but their life-expectancy is far longer than 15 years (which is when you'd start thinking of leaving them with "plenty of food and water" for a couple days anyhow).

Don't have kids yet but I have 2 Siberian Huskies and 2 cats. I'd say having a pet is like having a permanent (10-20 years is pretty permanent...) 2 year old.

I'm right there with ya Derek, at least kids grow up.

Of course, Jen, for most people these days, once their kids reach 15, they don't decide to replace them with more. :)

I have no idea. Pru has decided to quit using the litter box and is going back on anti-depressants.

It's a conspiracy by vets to keep pets alive long past their expiration date. I was not offered euthanasia as an option when my cat developed diabetes. Instead they prescribed a grand worth of paraphernalia and expected me to give him insulin twice a day. Needless to say, puddy cat was not amused and started secretly peeing behind the couch. Now I need to spend another four grand replacing the carpets. And I actually had to argue with the vet to let me put him down. He even tried to upsell me on the gold-star cremation package. I never want to go to the vet again!!

I have neither children nor pets. But I am sure I wouldn't have time for either! I need to get married in order to at least, make time for something else other than, well, work and hanging out with my friends!
