Late in the year 1999, my wife, daughter, and I went to the Marina Restaurant in Oak Bay, B.C., part of the city of Victoria. It was our last trip away as a three-member family, before our second daughter was born in January 2000. I’m releasing “Marina Bay” (3 MB MP3 file), a slow, grainy, watery waltz, to remember that trip, and for our wonderful oldest daughter, who is now eight.
When I originally recorded the track in December 2005, I laid down the piano and three separate guitar tracks quickly, with the idea of picking my favourite guitar part and then adding more instruments later. I never got around to it, but this week I tried leaving all three guitars in and adding some heavy effects to change their sound. When I listened, it didn’t need anything else.
“Marina Bay” is available via iTunes and on the Podsafe Music Network. © 2006 by Derek K. Miller (SOCAN), remastered by Les Thorn in New York City.
